The Different Types of Travel and the Purpose For Which They Are Travelled

Travel is the moving of individuals between different far away geographical areas. Travel can generally be done by automobile, foot, bike, car, train, plane, bus or other mode, with or without personal luggage, and is one way or round trip travel. It may be by land, sea or air and can generally be broken down further into local travel, cross-country travel, flying abroad, flying back, and all-inclusive travel. There are several different types of travel, each of which offers its own advantages, disadvantages and extra benefits for those taking that type of travel. The purpose of this article is to provide an outline of just some of the more common types of travel.

Local travel is a journey where the traveler relies on local resources such as lodging and restaurants to complete the journey. For example, a tourist might choose to take a road trip in order to see more of a city, as well as to see different regions within that city, ranging from its largest region to the smallest. A backpacking trip, on the other hand, would be ideal for someone who needs to see the country but does not necessarily want to invest a great deal of time and resources in that journey.

Cross-country travel is travelling from one point in a country to another in that country. It usually involves a journey of at least five hundred kilometers, though the range may vary depending on the purpose of the travel and the climate of the area that are travelling across. Another variation of cross-country travel is flying overseas, which is when the traveller travels from one country to another within that country. Airfare costs are generally much higher, however, due to the sheer size of the planes and other materials used to transport the traveler.
